Empowering Black Men Through Quality Products

Negus is the word for "king" in the Ethiopian Semitic languages and a title which was usually bestowed upon a regional ruler by the Negusa Nagast, or "king of kings" in pre-1974 Ethiopia.

The word nigger/or nigga is believed to be derived from Negus. The change of the "e" to an "i" was to represent the decapitation of a black man's head because once you were enslaved, technically you were considered dead. Slave owners not only had ownership of their slaves as property, but they controlled their diets along with restricting them of an education. During slavery and long after it was over, black people being referred to as niggers was the simplest way to demean our people. It basically meant uneducated, poor, animalistic and dangerous. With that classification our actions, talents and way of life amplified the meaning and translation of the word throughout history due to how we were viewed as people.

Here at Negus Hygienics, we not only want to tend the well-being and cleanliness of the black man but reinstall his presence as royalty. We've used nigga as a term of endearment for far too long. If we can take a derogatory word and flip the meaning to cope with generational oppression, then we can reclaim our origin as royalty and treat ourselves, our women and communities with the respect it deserves.
